Say ‘no’ to plastic bags – have a bag for life
Monday, May 26 2008
Scottish Borders Council is gearing up to help get the message across that a bag for life is better than a plastic bag.
Many national supermarkets are already offering re-usable bags to their customers – and Selkirk has recently become the first plastic bag free town centre in the Borders – so now the SBC Recycling Team is taking to the streets as part of Recycle Week to reinforce the message.
The fifth annual Recycle Week runs from 2-6 June and is aimed at promoting the fact that reducing, reusing and recycling is easy to do. A good first step is pledging to reduce the amount of new plastic bags picked up when shopping by reusing the ones that you have or opting for a bag for life.
A series of roadshows has been arranged so that local people can find out more about using a bag for life. The Recycling Team will also be pleased to answer questions about all aspects of recycling and reducing waste and will have information on a whole range of topics including how to select items with more environmentally friendly packaging, real nappies and what to put in kerbside recycling bags.
The roadshows will be at the following locations:
