Easier ways to pay

Friday, April 4 2008

It’s now easier for people in the Scottish Borders to pay their council tax or business rates by direct debit.

More than half of all local council tax and business rates payers pay by direct debit.  The Council hopes that, by making it easier to sign up for the service, more people will choose to pay this way.

SBC Revenues Manager Gary Smith said: “We don’t think it’s fair to charge people more if they pay by other methods, but the Council is committed to reducing costs.

“Direct debit is a good way to pay – for both the Council and our customers. It’s now much easier to set it up and we hope that more payers will choose this method”.

Direct debits can be set up on the Council website at www.scotborders.gov.uk or by calling 01835 824000 ext 5366.
