Moffat to Selkirk road – discussions with local MP
Thursday, March 20 2008
Chief Executive from Scottish Borders Council, David Hume, and Dumfries and Galloway Council's Corporate Director of Planning, Housing and Environment, Peter Bulmer, met with David Mundell MP in a video-conference on Wednesday 19 March, to discuss strategic road links between the two regions.
The discussion was wide-ranging and looked positively at many issues, but with a focus on the link between the towns of Moffat and Selkirk. The two councils explored the potential offered by the connectivity between these two attractive Border towns. The A708 which joins them is one of the most scenic routes in the South of Scotland and as well as providing an essential ‘lifeline’ for the communities that live and work along it, also offers many opportunities to support tourism and economic development for both regions.
The issues covered yesterday will be discussed at the forthcoming meeting of the South of Scotland Alliance. The South of Scotland Alliance was established to promote the interests and raise the profile of the South of Scotland region. The Alliance comprises Dumfries and Galloway Council, Scottish Borders Council and Scottish Enterprise.
