New Taxibus Service for Gordon and Westruther
Friday, February 15 2008
The area covered by the taxibus service linking Hume, Mellerstain, Smailholm and Stichill with Earlston and Kelso has been extended to include Gordon and Westruther from this week (beginning February 12).
Running every Tuesday and Thursday, the taxibus will start at Westruther and serve Houndslow, Bassendean and Gordon arriving in Kelso at 10am. Return from Kelso will be at 11.55am. Operated by Quarry Bank Garage on behalf of Scottish Borders Council, the service will only run if pre-booked the previous day by telephoning the operator on 01573 470366 between 8am and 4pm.
Westruther, Houndslow and Bassendean residents will also be able to travel to Galashiels by taking the taxibus to Gordon and changing there at 9.20am onto First service 60. The return from Galashiels will be at 11.55am by Munro’s service 61 to Earlston where the taxibus will meet passengers and return them home.
The fares on the taxibus will be similar to those charged on normal bus services. Holders of Scotland-wide concessionary cards will be carried free of charge.
The existing Monday to Friday demand responsive taxibus service will continue to be offered between Hume, Mellerstain, Smailholm, Stichill and Kelso but the link from these communities to Earlston will be reduced to run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays only.
