Education's Executive Member Catriona Bhatia recently undertoook a visit to all primary schools in Galashiels.
Scottish Borders Council’s Executive Member for Education, Catriona Bhatia, visited all primary schools in Galashiels on Friday
to meet the teachers and pupils. It gave her an opportunity to see the facilities and discuss issues at each of the schools.
Councillor Bhatia said: “I was impressed with the teaching and learning going on the schools, and faced some tough questioning from pupils. But we face a huge challenge with our school estate, and with a significant growth forecast for the town, the issue must be addressed.
“The Review to Transform Services to Children and Young People has been looking at future accommodation needs as part of its work. Its outcome will be published in March, which will enable the Council to decide where future investment should be targeted.
“In the meantime, I would urge parents and members of the community to bring to the Council their ideas about how we can provide better educational facilities in Galashiels, or other potential solutions such as re-drawing catchments.”
The visits were part of a programme of visits by Councillor Bhatia to all schools in the Borders.
