Festive celebrations began early for Scottish Borders Council (SBC) employee Jennifer Maben – when she learned that her studies had paid off and she had become a qualified paralegal.
Administrative Assistant Jennifer, based in the Council’s Peebles office, has just completed and passed the Certificate in Criminal Law following a course of study run by Strathclyde University.
Before joining the Council, Jennifer worked with a private legal firm and has extensive knowledge of legal work. Since joining the Council, she has been involved in the District Court. On Peebles court days, Jennifer would act as bar officer as well as the system administrator for the software and the interface with the Prosecution Service ,DVLA, social work and the Justices of the Peace.
To complete the required assessments and the exam, Jennifer worked hard in her own time and was mentored in the office by Phil Daly – Solicitor and Area Service Officer.
Two other Council support staff members are currently undertaking paralegal studies, one in conveyancing and other in Civil Court work.
Jennifer will receive her certificate at a graduation ceremony in Glasgow in Spring 2008.
