£4.3 million benefits gain for Borders households
Thursday, December 20 2007
The Welfare Benefits Service (WBS) in Scottish Borders Council is approaching its 20th year of service to the Borders people. Since it was established in 1988, the service has helped thousands of people to claim the financial support to which they are entitled.
In the last financial year, the team achieved a total benefit gain of £4.3 million for Borders households. WBS staff attended 148 tribunals, achieving a success rate in represented cases 9% above the UK average. Approximately half a million pounds of the total gains follow the successful implementation of the Independent Living Fund project, to help maintain the independence of disabled people.
One claimant said: “The Welfare Benefits Officer’s care, efficiency and attention to detail has been second to none. I found the whole service really efficient.”
