Drivers are reminded that essential works will start on the A72 Blyth Bridge to Galashiels Road next week due to a £350,000 plan to improve road surface condition and visibility
Road closures will take place over the next three weeks in order to carry out the works and discussions have taken place with First Bus, Lothian & Borders Police and SBC Technical Services Passenger Transport to agree alternative routes. Signage advising of the closure dates has already been located on the A72 and the closures have been advertised in the local press. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the closure.
Sections of the A72 will be closed as follows: map of closure

First Bus service 62 will operate as close as possible to the current timetable for the duration of the roadworks. Passengers are advised that there are likely to be delays and are asked to be patient. Between Monday 12 and Wednesday 14 November, buses will pass through the roadworks under escort. On Thursday and Friday 15/16 November and on Sunday 18 November, a minibus service will operate through the roadworks and passengers will be required to change from bus to minibus to bus during their journey. During works between Woodend and Dirtpot Corner, service and school buses will be diverted via Traquair and Cardrona.
In addition, during works in Innerleithen High Street on Monday and Tuesday 19/20 November, buses will be diverted via Waverley Road and Miller Street.
As well as the resurfacing work, driver information such as warnings of bends in the road will be improved following consultation between the Council and the Police through the Scottish Borders Road Safety Working Group.
