Garden Waste collections take winter break
Wednesday, October 24 2007
It’s time for gardeners in the Scottish Borders to do a final tidy up before the winter. From 29 October to 2 November, the last kerbside garden waste collections of the year will take place.
This summer, gardeners have sent more than 6,000 tonnes of garden waste for recycling. This is an important part of the SBC recycling target.
“We want to thank all our residents who have put out their green-lidded bin this summer. It really does help to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill,” said Julie Rankine, Waste Strategy Manager.
The kerbside garden waste collections will restart on 31 March 2008. Until then Borders residents can take their garden waste to the Community Recycling Centres (CRC) at Hawick, Galashiels, Selkirk, Eyemouth, Duns and Eshiels, near Peebles. The CRCs (except Selkirk) are open Mon-Fri 9a.m-5p.m, Sat & Sun 9a.m-4p.m and Selkirk is open Mon-Fri 10a.m-6p.m, Sat & Sun 11a.m-6p.m.
