A delegation from the Sjuharad Association of Local Authorities in Sweden visited the Scottish Borders last month. The aim was to take forward the informal partnership agreement between Scottish Borders Council and the Association.
The delegation included Leif Johannson, the Chief Executive of the Association and the Chief Executives of its eight Municipalities.
They met senior officials from the Council and Scottish Borders community planning partners to discuss co-operation and collaboration in areas such as economic development, the environment, community development, art and culture and community safety.
David Hume, Chief Executive of Scottish Borders Council, said: “The Sjuharad region is a dynamic rural area in the west of Sweden which is about one hour’s drive from Gothenburg, which is similar to our relationship with Edinburgh. It is a predominantly rural area and is similar in size to the Scottish Borders, and is also Sweden’s textile region.
“Over the last three years we have been building links with Sjuharad. There have been visits to the area by the Council and New Ways partners including Scottish Enterprise Borders, Borders College and Heriot Watt University. This has led to projects with schools on textiles design and film-making.
