A Partnership made in Coldstream: Official opening of the Marriage House

Friday, October 5 2007

Scottish Borders Registrars have now announced the completion of improvements to the Coldstream Marriage Room. An open event will take place on Tuesday 16 October from 4-7p.m for members of the public to see the Borders’ latest marriage venue for themselves.

The improvements are part of the Coldstream Regeneration Initiative, which aims to promote the town of Coldstream as a major wedding destination.

In the 19th century, Coldstream rivalled Gretna Green and was a wedding destination for hundreds of couples. Now into the 21st century, with a newly refurbished marriage room, the aim is to once again make Coldstream one of Scotland’s foremost wedding locations.

During the last six months, the Registrars have been working closely with the Council’s Economic Development department, the Coldstream Taskforce, local businesses and residents, in order to give Coldstream the ideal ceremony room. Located in the Town Hall, the Marriage Room and entrance have been redecorated and the result is something superb.

With original hammer beam ceiling and maplewood floor, this beautiful room has been brought back to its former glory. And Coldstream now has an elegant and dignified setting for all types of civil ceremonies and partnerships with up to 100 guests.

As part of this project, The Council’s Economic Development team have recently launched Coldstream Marriage Room web site www.coldstreamweddings.co.uk and a dedicated Marriage Room Brochure, both featuring a number of local partners.

Lisa Lauder, Registrar and a resident in Coldstream, is proud of the result: “It is wonderful to see Coldstream Town Hall being brought back to life and already we are attracting increased interest for marriages and civil partnerships from throughout the UK,” she said.

Anyone interested in holding their ceremony in the Marriage Room can obtain further information by emailing info@coldstreamweddings.co.uk, calling 01835 826683 or visiting the web site at www.coldstreamweddings.co.uk
