Temporary lighting solution for Hawick

Wednesday, October 3 2007

During a recent structural survey of street lighting in Hawick, it was discovered that some lampposts did not meet acceptable standards. To ensure public safety, a total of five lampposts have been removed from Wellogate Place.

As a result, replacement of lighting in Wellogate Place will now be made a priority.

In the short term, temporary measures will be set up to improve the lighting in Wellogate Placebefore this weekend (6 and 7 October). A permanent replacement scheme will be designed and fast-tracked. Scottish Power’s contribution is vital to the reinstatement of the lights and they will be contacted immediately to flag up the urgency of this matter so that they have every opportunity to schedule connection works.

Lothian & Borders Police have been contacted and have agreed to carry out additional patrols until lighting is reinstated.
