COSLA Appointment

Tuesday, September 11 2007

Councillor Michael Cook has been elected to the post of strategic human resources management spokesperson with the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA).

The SBC Executive Member for Corporate Improvement, Councillor Cook will speak for COSLA on HR issues.  Depute Council Leader, Alex Nicol, will represent SBC’s interests on the strategic human resources management group.

Council Leader David Parker said: “These appointments are good news for Scottish Borders Council and will mean that we have two strong, informed voices on HR issues within COSLA.”

Councillor Cook said: “This is a time when the whole area of human resources is full of challenges and opportunities.  There are the issues of equal pay, single status, the likelihood of a single equalities bill, pay negotiations and strategic workforce planning, among others.  In all this, people remain the most valuable resource of local government, so I’m delighted to play a role for COSLA in this key area.”
