New painting and sculpture exhibition at Old Gala House
Friday, August 31 2007
A joint exhibition of brightly coloured textural paintings by Vivien Alexander and kinetic sculptures by Sam Wade is currently on display at The Christopher Boyd Gallery, Old Gala House, Galashiels.
The two exhibitions entitled ‘Search for Order’ and ‘Moving Times’ will run until Saturday 15 September and admission is free.
Vivien, who attended Edinburgh College of Art, has exhibited widely throughout Scotland including a solo show at Edinburgh City Arts Centre and recently at Ettrick Riverside, Selkirk. She has lived in the Yarrow Valley with Sam Wade for the last nine years and her latest paintings look at the details that surround her in the Scottish Borders. The foliage, plants, flowers, birds and animals are the defining forms of her new landscape.
Sam Wade likes to think that his kinetic sculptures tread the line between art and engineering, exploring the long tradition of seeking form-through-motion by combining movement and machinery with, he hopes, a measure of precision and humour. He originally trained as a civil engineer but became involved in sculpture when his career brought him to Scotland 30 years ago. He is a Professional Member of the Society of Scottish Artists, SSA, VAS and Visual Arts Scotland.
