Green exhibition currently on display at Chambers Institute
Tuesday, August 28 2007
An exhibition of exploratory ‘applied art’ by a group of professionals based in and around Edinburgh is currently on display at The Gallery, Tweeddale Museum, Chambers Institute, Peebles.
Working in glass, ceramic, metalwork, paper and textiles, the artists set themselves a project to create art with a recycling theme. The group were encouraged to employ alternative materials as well as experiment with media, techniques and concepts beyond their usual and often commercial practice.
Among the many interesting artworks on show are examples of jewellery made from a variety of recycled materials including paper, scrap pieces of printed material embedded in resin and old discarded postcards. There are also some intriguing items of clothing on display which should inspire people with an eye for fashion but limited cash resources.
There are 11 artists in the group including Inge Panneels who is based at Lilliesleaf in the Borders and specialises in glass. One of the members, Anna King is currently showing a major retrospective of her work at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh.
This is a quirky exhibition which will appeal to art lovers and those who are
interested in helping save our planet.
The exhibition is running from now until the Saturday 6 October 2007. Opening hours are Mon–Fri 10a.m-12noon & 2p.m-5p.m, Sat 10a.m-1p.m & 2p.m-4p.m. Admission is free. For more information please contact Rosemary Hannay on 01721 724820.
