‘Three Hands’ exhibition at Halliwell’s House Museum
Friday, August 17 2007
An exhibition of artwork by three generations of the same family is currently on display at the Robson Gallery, Halliwell’s House Museum in Selkirk.
For the first time ever, Grandfather John Martin, who is well known on the local art scene, will be showing work with his daughter Lynn Rodgie and his grandson Kerr Rodgie in a public gallery. Both John and Lynn are trained as graphic artists and now paint full-time from their studios in St Boswells. Kerr currently attends Earlston High School and hopes to eventually pursue a career in art.
Lynn explained: “As a child I used to sit at the end of my dad’s desk and watch him draw. As I grew older the desire to draw and paint never left me and then to watch my own child’s talent develop has been very rewarding. This exhibition is very special because it not only brings together three generations but three different techniques and ways of expressing our art.”
All of the paintings are bold and colourful and range from large floral studies to atmospheric landscapes of the Borders and beyond to drawings of street life in Glasgow. Viewing these bright and cheerful artworks will go some way in making up for the lack of summer weather experienced in the Borders this year and should not be missed.
The exhibition will run until Sunday 9 September 2007. The Gallery is open Monday – Saturday 10a.m.-5p.m. & Sunday 10a.m.-1p.m. Admission is free and wheelchair access is available.
