The latest edition of the Scottish Borders writing magazine ‘The Eildon Tree’ (Issue 14) is now available from Scottish Borders Council libraries and museums.
The magazine, which continues to grow in popularity, has received submissions and subscriptions from across the Borders and beyond to Europe, the United States and the Antipodes. The latest issue is bigger than ever with an expanded ‘article and review’ section which includes reviews on the work of Seamus Heaney, William McIlvaney, Helen Farish and other renowned and perhaps lesser known writers.
Julian Colton, one of the Eildon Tree’s co-editors explains why the magazine has a reputation for creative writing and high production values: “This issue includes a fascinating interview with esteemed Carlops actress, director and writer Gerda Stevenson as well as poems and short stories from the cream of Scotland’s writing talent, plus writers from further afield including; Jim Carruth, Tessa Ransford, Gerry Singh, Gerda Stevenson and Robert Lindsay Wilson to name just a few. Combine this with other past initiatives such as an anniversary CD, poetry competitions and the organising of literary events, and it is easy to see why The Eildon Tree is fast becoming Scotland’s finest literary magazine”.
Councillor Graham Garvie, Executive Spokesman for Culture, Sport and Community Education, said: “The Eildon Tree remembers its roots and continues to foster the best of local writing talent. Since the magazine’s inception, hundreds of local writers have appeared in its pages. The Eildon Treewill endeavour to give a future platform for the region’s finest writing talent”.
