Leaflet designed to draw tourists to Tweed Valley

Monday, July 23 2007

An attractive new leaflet has been produced which promotes the Innerleithen and Walkerburn area as the ideal place to enjoy an active break.

Located in the heart of the beautiful Tweed Valley Forest Park, the area provides the perfect backdrop for a wide variety of outdoor activities.

Probably best known for mountain biking including the famous Red Bull Black Run for downhill enthusiasts and, of course, nearby Glentress for bikers of all levels, the area also boasts some of the finest walking in Southern Scotland including the challenging Southern Upland Way. For golfers, there is the picturesque course at Innerleithen or the championship course at Cardrona. There is also the internationally renowned fishing on the queen of salmon rivers, the Tweed, and – for keen equestrians – the Tweed valley is also the perfect setting to take to the hills on horseback.

As well as promoting all things active, the leaflet, called ‘Welcome to Innerleithen and Walkerburn’, includes ideas on things to see and do while in the area including Traquair House, St Ronan's Wells and the Tweed

Valley Osprey Watch. There is also some fascinating history and heritage of the area to discover as well as a colourful diary of local events to enjoy.

The leaflet has been produced by Scottish Borders Council in conjunction with the local communities and the 30,000 print run will be targeted predominately at Edinburgh and the central belt of Scotland as well as being available in the Borders. They are available now, free of charge, from leaflet stands run by a major marketing company. Locations include Caldwell’s ice cream shop in Innerleithen, Melrose Abbey and Traquair House as well as further afield, for example; the Scottish Mining Museum at Newtongrange, Rosslyn Chapel, the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh, Musselburgh Racecource, and the St James Centre, Ocean Terminal and Princes Mall shopping centres in Edinburgh.

Graeme Rigg, SBC’s Area Regeneration Co-ordinator said: " We were delighted to work with the local communities to produce this leaflet which highlights the many activities and attractions the area has to offer and will hopefully generate extra visitors to Innerleithen and Walkerburn."
