Digital Switchover doorstep sellers warning
Tuesday, July 24 2007
Scottish Borders Council Trading Standards section is warning householders in the Borders not to be taken in by doorstep traders offering to sell and install new television aerials in the run up to the digital changeover.
John Askew, Regional Manager for Digital UK, has advised the Trading Standards office that it is estimated that less than 10 per cent of households in the region will require a new aerial in order to receive the digital transmission when the switchover takes place in October 2008.
Patricia Scott, SBC’s Principal Consumer Advisory Officer, says that householders should not respond to itinerant traders who cold call, offering to install new aerials but suggests that the public should wait until the changeover to see what kind of reception they receive via their existing aerials.
If a poor reception is being received after October 2008, it is recommended that you seek the advice of a local tradesperson who is known and trusted, or a trader who is a Registered Digital Installer, identifiable by the digital logo.
Patricia can be contacted at the Trading Standards office in Melrose on 01896 823922.
