More flavour than ever at Borders Food Fair
Monday, July 23 2007
Calling all ‘foodies’ – the Flavour of the Borders Food Fair at the Border Union Show looks set to be bigger and better than ever this year.
With a whopping 31 stands, 18 of them displaying Borders produce, the event – sponsored by SBC, Scottish Enterprise Borders and Borders College, will feature some of the cream of the crop of local food producers, some of them new businesses.
Located in the exhibition hall in Springwood Park, Kelso, on 27 and 28 July, visitors can see, buy and even taste some of the best locally-grown vegetables as well as local meat, yogurts, ice creams and wines and much more.
For the first time, this year’s event will also include a trade evening when buyers from the food trade in the Borders, Edinburgh and the Lothians can take an exclusive look at the wares on offer.
More than 50 businesses have already requested an invitation for the trade event, on Friday 27 July from 4.30 to 6.30 p.m. but some are still available by emailing sebeventbookings@scotent.co.uk or by phoning Marion Oates at SBC on 01835 825069.
The popular “Ready, Steady, Cook” competition between local celebrities and chefs from Scottish Borders eating places makes a welcome return and will take centre stage each afternoon.
New facilities this year include a ‘food crèche’ – a chilled area where perishable produce purchased at the event can be safely stored while visitors enjoy the rest of the show.
