HMIe: Howdenburn Primary School – Very positive learning environment for Jedburgh pupils
Howdenburn Primary School in Jedburgh was inspected in May 2007 as part of a national sample of primary education. Inspectors from Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education (HMIe) spent five days with staff, pupils and parents looking at key aspects of the work of the whole school.
Within the school inspection several very important strengths were identified. The quality of the school accommodation was very good. Relationships between staff and pupils were very positive and a strong sense of teamwork existed in the school. The high quality pastoral care for pupils and the school’s commitment to inclusion and the promotion of equality and fairness were also praised. Across the school the quality of learning was good. Very good steps had been taken to help pupils develop their wider achievements, with pupils at all stages demonstrating good awareness of their responsibilities to themselves and to others.
The head teacher Miss Strathie said: “I am extremely pleased to see so many achievements and positive aspects have been recognised in the report.
