Football coaches learn from the best at Netherdale
Monday, May 21 2007
More than 170 football coaches flocked to the Heriot Watt Campus at Netherdale in Galashiels on Sunday 13 May 2007 to learn some top tips from a trio of football coaches at the top of their game.
Hibernian manager John Collins returned to his home town with Manchester United’s Skills Development Coach, Rene Meulensteen and Everton’s number one coach, Tosh Farrell to host the SFA ‘South East Coaching Conference 2007’ for the first time in the Scottish Borders.
Supported by Scottish Borders Council, the Conference involved coaches working throughout all levels of football and included a series of presentations, practical sessions and discussion forums from the three hosts. Scottish Borders Council’s Senior Sports Development officer, Dougie Anderson co-ordinated the event and was responsible for securing the three guests. He explained the importance of the conference for local coaches:
“These three coaches work with some of the best footballers in the world on a daily basis and it has been an honour to have welcomed them to the Borders to pass on their unique knowledge to so many coaches who seized the opportunity to take part. To watch sessions that they deliver with players such as Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo has been a privilege, and just proves just why these guys are at the highest level in football.”
“There has been so much enthusiasm seen here today and it has been a tremendous experience for everyone. We have received a huge amount of excellent feedback from participants who have been inspired by these guys and will continue with the great work that is already happening in football, both in the Borders and in Scotland.”
