Traffic surveys to be undertaken in the central Borders During May

Monday, May 14 2007

Traffic surveys to help identify existing traffic movements and problem areas in the Central Borders area will be undertaken by Scottish Borders Council during the month of May 2007.

The traffic surveys will include the provision of video cameras at various locations in towns such as Galashiels, Melrose and Selkirk to help monitor traffic movements. In addition, two interview sites at key locations in Galashiels will be in operation for an allocated time in the morning and evening of one selected day. At the interview sites, the police will stop the traffic for a short period of time and postcards will be issued to drivers and passengers asking for travel related information.

This information will help the Council to develop strategies for future transport-related projects in the Central Borders including future road and infrastructure improvements. The Council would like to apologise in advance for any disruption that this survey work may cause and would encourage as many people as possible to respond to the postcards.
