Community Wardens Promote Noise Action Week – 21 to 25 May 2007

Friday, May 11 2007

Noise Action Week aims to promote practical solutions to everyday noise problems.

During Noise Action Week the Community Wardens in Galashiels and Kelso, will be attending schools, running a competition and putting out a display to raise awareness of the impacts of noise in the area and the simple measures that can be taken to prevent noise problems.

Over 2000 domestic noise complaints have been received during the past 12 months within the Borders. The Community Wardens along with the Antisocial Behaviour Unit and all their partners are using this week as an opportunity to raise awareness of how noise issues can be dealt with.

Noise can cause disruption and distress to everyone - at home, at leisure, at work and at study. There is no doubt that our capacity to make noise is increasing. For Noise Action Week everybody is urged to:

  • Consider the noise they make and the effect it has on others
  • Consider the noises that disturb them
  • Use our practical solutions to everyday noise problems

The range of events will start with Tesco Customer Services display in the afternoons of the 21 and 25 May and an awareness session/competition at Balmoral school in Galashiels and Edenside School at Kelso on the Friday 25 May during assembly. Tesco have sponsored the prize of an MP3 player for this.

If you are a tenant, then you should always try and let your landlord know there is a problem, all others should contact the Antisocial Behaviour Unit on 0800 028 5711 for help and advice.
