Changes in Burial Arrangements - Galashiels

Thursday, March 8 2007

Burial arrangements can be made in greater privacy now that the Cemetery Office has moved to new premises.

This week (7 March) the Scottish Borders Council Bereavement Services team moved from space in open-plan offices in Galashiels town centre to a dedicated office at Heatheryett Cemetery.

Robert Mathison, Bereavement Services Manager at Scottish Borders Council explained “We didn’t have the confidentiality we needed in the old open-plan office.  We are confident this new office will make things easier for people needing our services at what is often a difficult time.”

The new Cemetery Office will provide a more confidential service for people making burial arrangements, burial and headstone inquiries, and advice to the bereaved about woodland burials or burial on private land. There is also dedicated car parking, which the Market Street offices did not have.

The new contact details are Cemeteries Office, Scottish Borders Council, Heatheryett Cemetery, Galashiels TD1 2JL. Telephone 01896 753856, Fax 01896 753782.
