Sponsorship for Artists

Friday, February 16 2007

The Arts Development Service at Scottish Borders Council, in partnership with Arts & Business Scotland, are inviting Arts organisations from the Scottish Borders to attend a special ‘Introduction to Sponsorship Course’.

The course will be held on Wednesday 7 March at The Wynd Theatre, Melrose and will provide arts organisations that have little or no experience of sponsorship to find out about this important area of fundraising.  Participants will also have the opportunity to hear about the forthcoming 2007/08 Scottish Executive New Arts Sponsorship Awards, which is a match funding scheme.

Jeanie Scott, Business Development Manager from Arts & Business Scotland explained, “Arts & Business has been the connecting point for the business and arts communities for the past 30 years across the United Kingdom. Being able to build mutually beneficial and sustainable relationships with a range of business sponsors is vital for arts organisations working in today’s very competitive cultural sector. We are looking forward to working closely with both the arts and business sectors in the Scottish Borders in the months ahead.”

Places on the course are subsidised and as a result are being offered at £25 per person (normally £50 per person).  Participants can book to join a half day ‘Introduction to Sponsorship’ course or attend the free introduction to the Arts & Business match funding programme. One-to-one sponsorship surgeries will also be available on a first-come-first-served basis for arts organisations wishing to discuss specific issues with an advisor.

Further details and application forms are available by contacting Lisa Hodge, Arts Development, Education & Lifelong Learning, St Mary’s Mill, Selkirk, TD7 5EW or by phoning  01750 724901 or by contacting art service
