‘Investors in People’ status retained by Burnfoot Community School

Thursday, February 15 2007

Burnfoot Community School in Hawick has recently been re-accredited as an ‘Investors in People’ (IIP) school following an inspection in December last year.

The feedback report confirmed that the school continues to meet all indicators of IIP standards with “highly motivated staff who are positive and heavily involved in visionary thinking and decision making.”  It also found that staff suggestions are listened to and acted upon and they are continually benefiting from a wide variety of training and development opportunities.

The report stated “Management of the school is visionary, maintaining a balance between innovation and complying with required targets and standards, and it is committed to an ethos of excellence, community involvement and dispersed leadership.  This is clearly reflected at all levels of the school and the staff appear highly motivated and enthusiastic in pursuing the vision for the school”, said IIP Assessor Julienne Dickey.

The assessment also highlighted that staff are very positive about the new leadership from Headteacher Janice Chapman and the Management Team whom they perceive to be knowledgeable, approachable, supportive and fair.

Janice Chapman said, “I was delighted with the feedback on staff perceptions of the transfer of leadership, and its impact on working practice in the school.  The areas for development which were identified in the previous report have all been acted upon which shows we are committed to maintaining the best possible standards in the school.”

Councillor Andrew Farquhar, Executive Spokesman and Joint Portfolio Holder for Education and Lifelong Learning explained how Burnfoot                [More]
