Don’t miss out on warmer deal on heating
Monday, January 29 2007
Elderly people without central heating are being urged to find out if they are eligible for the Scottish Executive’s extended Central Heating Programme and Warm Deal Grant.
The programme installs free central heating for householders aged 60 or over, who own their own homes or rent from a private landlord and either have no central heating or have a system that is broken down and beyond repair. To be eligible, you must also have lived in your house for 12 months or more. Householders who receive the guarantee element of Pension Credit or are aged over 80 may still qualify for the scheme, even if they do not meet the conditions above.
The Warm Deal scheme provides a grant of up to £500 for home owners or tenants of private landlords to make their home more energy efficient and warmer during the colder winter months. To be eligible for the Warm Deal Grant, householders must be in receipt of specific benefits, such as Council Tax Benefit or Disability Living Allowance.
Scottish Gas was recently appointed managing agent for the Scottish Executive Central Heating Programme and Warm Deal Grant.
Sandy Black, Home Energy Adviser in Scottish Borders Council’s Housing Strategy Team, said: “While temperatures have generally been above normal for this time of year, the Borders can still experience some very cold snaps, which can cause real suffering to people without central heating in their homes. We want to make sure that everyone who is eligible for this generous scheme has the opportunity to take advantage of it.”
