New voting pad system available for hire

Tuesday, December 19 2006

The Borders Voluntary Youth Work Forum (BVYWF) has recently launched a new voting pad system that enables people to quickly express their views anonymously in a public arena.

The service enables up to 100 users to respond to questions from a projected screen via the touch of a button. The results are then automatically collated and displayed almost immediately after the voting has taken place.

Tracey Armstrong, Manager of BVYWF explained, "The system is really useful in that it automatically counts how many people are voting, and collates the results quickly which is a real time saver.  In addition, it is a particularly useful tool if there are any contentious issues that an individual may not feel comfortable answering publicly."

Initially, the system was used within various youth projects to find out what young people feel about particular issues. Due to its success, the Forum decided that it should be made widely available to all community and public groups. The long-term plan is to train young people to facilitate the voting pads at events themselves.  Recent clients have included the NHS, Social Work and the Newtown and Eildon Action Group (NEAG).

Hiring the voting pads varies in price. For statutory organisations and private companies the fee is £500 per session, while voluntary and community groups can have a discounted fee of £400 per session.  The BVYWF can advise on funding opportunities for those who need financial assistance.  The fee includes assistance in setting up, facilitation and report compilation.
