Hawick Museum closed for installation of platform lift
Friday, December 15 2006
Hawick Museum closed on the 17 December and will re-open in April 2007.
The closure is to allow for Scottish Borders Council (SBC) to install a platform lift to the Scott Gallery (1st floor) which will make that section of the museum accessible to all visitors.
Richard White, Acting Curator of the Museum said "People who are unable to use the stairs will have access to the Scott Gallery and will be able to enjoy our major exhibitions. The new display areas will allow for objects which have not been seen for decades to be shown again. This includes archaeological stonework from Roman to early Modern times. There will also be a study console area where the public will have access to full research facilities."
"It was deemed necessary to close the Museum for health and safety reasons including the noise, dust, moving plant machinery and general disruption. We will look forward to welcoming the public back in April and making more of the Museum available to all."
