Volunteers open library at Borders General Hospital
Friday, December 15 2006
A library for patients and staff will now open on Mondays between 11.30 am and 1.30 pm.
The service is supported by Galashiels Library and has benefited from the assistance of 25 volunteers including Elizabeth Hogg.
Elizabeth has been heavily involved in giving the library a new lease of life. Caroline Letton, Area Librarian for Galashiels Library, said "We have been very fortunate to have the invaluable assistance of Elizabeth who organises the BGH library volunteers and trolley service. She has worked really hard to achieve a bright, fresh library for visitors. We have both been very grateful for the help and support from the many volunteers, and hope that the service will be used widely."
In the last eighteen months the old stock of books has been replaced with donations of clean titles. The volunteers held a book sale to raise funds and to provide personal tape machines to be used with talking books.
The trolley service operates on Wednesdays and Fridays and books can be returned at any time as the library has a post box outside.
