New European community funded units prove popular
Thursday, December 7 2006
Four new industrial units in Hawick, which have been developed with the assistance of a £130,000 grant from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) are set to provide up to 12 new jobs in the Scottish Borders.
With the development providing 4 new units in the regenerated Mansfield Gardens area, a new packaging business will be based from the site. Packaging Distribution & Fulfilment Ltd (PD&F Ltd) are set to provide a new range of packaging services that are not yet available in the Scottish Borders, including a dedicated service for die-cutting, creasing and direct mailing solutions.
It is expected that the expansions will provide 12 new full-time jobs and the company is also looking for a bank of part-time casual staff in the area. With such strong employment generation this development is testament to the success of the ERDF grant scheme in providing visible economic growth in the Scottish Borders.
Scottish Borders Council has in recent years developed a total of 14 new serviced industrial premises for small businesses in Hawick, Galashiels and Selkirk. These developments have been carried out with combined grants of £0.5 million from the ERDF.
Councillor John Elliot, SBC’s Executive Spokesman for Planning and Economic Development, said, "We’re delighted to see developments such as these supporting new businesses like Packaging Distribution & Fulfilment Ltd and creating valuable new jobs in the Scottish Borders.”
As the project was within a regeneration area it helped to support the decision for ERDF backing. The Hawick units have provided a total of 490m² (5,272 ft²) of new floorspace.
Councillor John Elliot and local member for Hawick, Councillor David Richardson will be visiting the new development on Tuesday 12th December at 16:00.
Notes to the Editor
Both Councillors will be available for photos at this time as they officially welcome PD&F Ltd to the site.
