‘Making the media work’ for Event Organisers

Tuesday, November 21 2006

The Scottish Borders Event Forum is inviting event organisers to a series of workshops throughout the Borders.

The first event will be held at the Buccleuch Arms Hotel, St Boswells on Wednesday 29 November between 4.00 pm and 7.30 pm, where light refreshments will be served. The workshop will be an informal get together which will provide a chance to meet up with other event organisers both professional and community based.

Events continue to thrive in the Scottish Borders and there is now a vibrant and diverse range of events taking place throughout the year. The area has a wealth of culture and natural resources and by helping events to become sustainable, substantial benefits can be brought to the area.

The workshops are designed to offer advice and practical information, coming along to the first one is Barbara Huddart who has run a successful company for the past 12 years, she has been involved with PR campaigns for The Roxburghe Golf Course, The Fishwick Mains Maize Maze and Doddington Dairy Ice Cream. Barbara will be offering an informative workshop on how to secure free press coverage for events and tips on how to ensure that editors promote events.

Jean Robertson, in-house Funding Officer at Scottish Borders Council (SBC), will be on hand to offer advice on exactly what funds are available. Sponsorship and funding opportunities are also addressed with a look at new and innovative ideas to raise money. The Borders Vintage Automobile Club and CHAS, (The Charity Hospice Association of Scotland) will be in attendance to offer an insight into how they address this issue.

For more information contact Jane Warcup, Events Officer at SBC on 01835 825060.
