Scottish Borders Council has been named Local Authority Fleet Operator of the Year at the Transport News Scottish Rewards 2007.
SBC was nominated for this prestigious award by their peers in the industry – both manufacturers and repairers. The Scottish Rewards recognise excellence in the areas of Fleet Management and Vehicle Maintenance.
For the 'Fleet Operator of the Year' title, SBC was assessed on: efficiency of the fleet; environmental criteria; maintenance; training methods; fleet management systems; utilisation of vehicles and equipment for all year round optimisation.
John Martin, SBC's Fleet Manager and his team are responsible for over 550 trucks and vans and 1000 pieces of plant – all closely monitored by a new computerised control system. The award recognises the effort and commitment by all Fleet Management staff in providing high standards of service. Judges described SBC as displaying many strengths and best practice procedures as well as being innovative and flexible.
The awards ceremony at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Glasgow on Friday 20th October was compered by TV sports personality Mary Rhodes.
