Excellence achievements for Borders childminders
Friday, November 10 2006
Three Borders childminders have become the first in the area to complete Council-supported study sessions to achieve the Scottish Childminding Association's Scheme of Excellence.
Sarah Duncan (of Peebles), Annmarie Robertson and Shelley Lamb (both from Tweedbank) used precious free time outside their normal childminding jobs to complete the course, which is rated near level 3 on the Scottish Qualification Framework and worth six credits.
The Scheme of Excellence, which is specifically for working childminders, is designed to help students develop their business, as well as their personal knowledge.
The supported study sessions were funded by Scottish Borders Council and led by Jill Hosker, Childminding Development Officer for the Scottish Childminding Association.
Annmarie Robertson said, "I found the whole course enjoyable and a good way of refreshing and updating previous training." She is now using what she has learned as she trains to be a Scottish Childminding Association tutor and may one day deliver the course.
"I'm very proud of them all," said Jill Hosker, who led the supported study sessions. "I'm particularly proud of Sarah Duncan from Peebles, who not only completed the course but produced a bouncing baby boy en route. He even came along to one session aged two weeks, possibly Scotland’s youngest student!"
