The synthetic pitch in Hawick was recently host to the Scottish Hockey Union Level 1 Coaching Award. The event which takes place over two weekends, was initiated by The South Hockey Development Group in partnership with Scottish Borders Council’s (SBC) Sports Development Unit.
The course was delivered by Colleen Reid, Scottish Hockeys' Head Coaching Officer and was attended by 14 coaches who focused on receiving and defending skills, principles of play, goalkeeping and the rules of the game.
Ruth Hounam, Chair of the South Hockey Development Group said, "The course was really intensive but very enjoyable, I have learned a great deal from Colleen today. I was delighted to see so many keen and enthusiastic coaches wishing to improve the standards of their coaching, as well as their weekly club and school sessions."
John McBay from SBC’s Sports Development Unit commented, "The South Hockey Development Group are working hard to improve the infrastructure for the long term development of hockey in the Borders. I am sure that this group will make a significant difference in the future. I am grateful to the executive committee of the group and to the Scottish Hockey Union for all of their hard work to date."
