Do you know someone who deserves a Scottish Borders Award?
Friday, October 27 2006
If you know an enterprising, innovative and committed organisation or individual who deserves a helping hand, why don’t you nominate them for a Scottish Borders Award?
A Scottish Borders Award is more than just a trophy. For many small enterprises, it brings tangible benefits that can make a real difference to their future.
One of last year’s award winners, the Harmony Music Therapy Project, which runs free concerts at Borders care homes and day centres, won the design and print of a promotional leaflet from COVA DDPR Ltd. And much more, as Harmony secretary Jim Smith explains:
“Cova has gone well beyond the original prize of producing a new leaflet for us. It has also redesigned our logo and provided invaluable advice on approaching businesses for support. Because we are a charity, securing sponsorship for the future is vital and this very high-quality brochure has been great when approaching companies.”
Lanton Community Council, another of last year’s Scottish Borders Award winners, is equally enthusiastic about the support and help it received from Kelso Graphics as part of its prize:
“This prize meant that we were able to produce a high quality leaflet about our community. It features our award-winning garden, but it also allows us to let people know how the community council in Lanton can help them, as well as providing information about hiring the village hall,” said Wendy Frost, Chair of Lanton Community Council.
The Racial Equality Group, which organises a series of events and activities to promote racial equality throughout the Scottish Borders, won a laptop computer from Tesco Stores in Galashiels, which has enabled Chairman George Higgs to work flexibly and make presentations throughout the Borders. The group has held Thai evenings, Asian World evenings, Salsa Dancing and much more.
For a Scottish Borders Award, you can nominate a community group, voluntary organisation, project or initiative. It doesn’t matter how small it is. What counts is the difference it has made, either in a local area or across the whole region, and the benefits it has achieved.
Nominations close on 1 December.
