Borders Archaeological Forum is a sell-out
Tuesday, October 10 2006
The first one-day conference of the re-launched Borders Archaeological Forum has proved a sell-out.
Scottish Borders Council resurrected the Forum on 30 September with a conference on the theme ‘Past, Present, and Future: Archaeology in the Scottish Borders’ at the Corn Exchange in Melrose.
Fourteen speakers took part, covering a wide range of topics, from management and interpretation work carried out by SBC to community archaeology carried out by local museum trusts and archaeological societies. Recent works were also discussed, giving delegates a chance to find out more about local surveys at Roxburgh, Coldingham Priory and Waverley Mill, Galashiels.
The event was sold out, and those who attended were enthusiastic about the topics covered, as well as the chance to meet like-minded people. Some were pleasantly surprised at the number of things happening in the local area, and at the support from Scottish Borders Council.
Many said they thought the event was excellent value for money.
Rory McDonald, SBC’s Archaeology Officer, was delighted with the response of the delegates. He said, “I’d like to thank all the speakers for their presentations and all those involved in making the day such a success. It is encouraging to see the amount of local interest in archaeology.”
