Time to nominate winners for the Scottish Borders Awards
Friday, October 6 2006
The search is on once again to find the most enterprising, innovative and committed organisations and individuals in the Scottish Borders.
Following the tremendous success of last year’s New Ways Awards, the New Ways Partnership is hosting the Scottish Borders Awards 2006-07, with the Buccleuch Group as main sponsor.
As well as rewarding businesses and communities, the New Ways partners are making an award for “Young Ambassador of the Year”, recognising the outstanding contribution that young people make to the Borders through their participation in project work.
The 2006-07 Scottish Borders Awards categories are:
- Award for Young Ambassador (sponsored by Tesco)
- Business of the Year- Award for Business Excellence (sponsored by Buccleuch Group)
- Award for Best Community Project (sponsored by Sykes Europe) [more]
- Award for Excellence in Skills and Learning (sponsored by Borders College and Heriot-Watt University)
- Awards for Excellence in Rural Diversification (sponsored by SNH and Forestry Commission)
- Award for Promoting the Scottish Borders (sponsored by Royal Mail)
- Award for Promoting Health and Well-being (sponsored by Healthy Working Lives).
Applications forms will be posted to more than 1,700 Borders businesses, organisations and community groups in the next week, but you can also enter online until the end of November at www.scottishbordersnewways.co.uk , clicking on the link to Awards, or contact Sarah Glendinning, New Ways Co-ordinator, on 01835 826542 or online
Last year, community winners included Lanton Community Garden, Harmony Music Project and the Racial Equalities Group. Among the businesses whose excellence was rewarded were Stobo Castle Health Spa, Scotia Kids and Borders Marketing Company. Winners not only benefited from the publicity associated with winning, but also from a selection of prizes, from leaflet design and print for community groups to membership of the Scottish Borders Chamber of Commerce for businesses.
Tracey Armstrong of Borders Voluntary Youth Work Forum and Allister Short from Scottish Borders Council’s Community, Learning & Development Service both welcome the recognition given by New Ways partners to the work being undertaken by Borders young people.
“Being part of this award scheme will help to raise the profile of some great projects that young people are involved with across the Borders. We hope many young people will recognise their peers’ achievements and nominate them for the Award. It can be either an individual or a group of young people who have done something in and for their community.”
Richard Williamson, Buccleuch’s Director of Communications & Marketing, said, “We are proud to be associated with an event like this, which provides an opportunity to showcase success stories in all areas of Borders life”.
