Kelso to host 2007 Festival of Walking
Wednesday, September 20 2006
More than a thousand people took part in the Scottish Borders’ Festival of Walking in Selkirk earlier this month. The event was so successful, planning for next year’s festival, in Kelso, has already started.
Anyone who would like to become involved in the 2007 Festival of Walking is invited to an open meeting at Abbey Row Centre, Abbey Row, Kelso on Thursday 21 September at 7 pm.
Neil Mackay, Senior Access Officer for Scottish Borders Council, explained, “We need the support of the community as well as committed townsfolk to act as hosts to the visitors who come to the Borders during the first week of September specifically to attend the Walking Festival.”
The festival, now in its thirteenth year, is a week-long celebration of countryside walks, music, talks and entertainment. Next year it will take place from 1 September to 8 September. The event attracts many visitors to the area and is a welcome economic and tourism boost to the host town.
The event is financed by Scottish Border Paths, a project supported by SBC, Scottish Enterprise Borders, Scottish Natural Heritage, Visit Scotland (Borders) and Paths for All. It is also part-financed via the European Union. [more]
