Excellent response to Council business survey
Tuesday, September 12 2006
More than 600 local companies have responded to a recent survey to find out how well Scottish Borders Council is serving the business community.
The survey, ‘Supporting Business’, was carried out by SBC to establish how well it is fulfilling its statutory and regulatory functions in, for example, waste collection, parking provision, trading standards, licensing, environmental health, planning, building standards and rates revaluation.
The Supporting Business review is a joint effort by SBC’s Scrutiny committee and the Scottish Borders Federation of Small Businesses. It is managed by a working party, chaired by SBC Councillor Vicky Davidson.
She said, “This was the biggest survey of businesses we’ve ever undertaken and to have over 600 replies give us a very strong base for our review. On behalf of the Working Group, I’d like to thank everyone who took the time to complete this questionnaire. I’m particularly pleased that so many people made the effort to give additional comments and suggestions as to how services can be improved. These will now be taken up with the directors of each Council department and we will be bringing forward recommendations in the New Year.”
Every Borders-based business received a questionnaire in July, with a covering letter, asking about the services they receive from the Council and how they can be made better. The survey, which closed on 31 July, could also be completed on-line.
Businesses which completed the survey were automatically entered in a prize draw, with a winning prize of a Champagne Dinner Bed and Breakfast for Two, courtesy of the Macdonald Cardrona Hotel, Golf and Country Club.
The winner was revealed yesterday as Kinsman Blake Ceramics of Smailholm, Kelso.
