Scottish Borders collects record Council Tax
Tuesday, July 11 2006
Scottish Borders Council has recorded its highest ever in-year collection of Council Tax, according to new figures released by the Scottish Executive this week.
The Council collected 96.7% of Council Tax in 2005/6 - the second highest level of collection in mainland Scotland.
Councillor Douglas Younger, SBC Finance Spokesman, welcomed the figures:
"The increased income is due to a combination of the Council's staff taking speedy and regular pro-active recovery action and the commitment of the vast majority of Borders residents in meeting their obligations to pay in full and on time," he said.
"This is a tremendous achievement and I would like to congratulate everyone concerned."
