Maps of proposed ward boundaries on display
Friday, July 7 2006
Maps of the recommended ward boundaries for next year's Local Government Elections are now on display at Scottish Borders Council contact centres.
In a report submitted to Scottish Ministers yesterday, the Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland recommended that the Scottish Borders Council area should have 11 wards for the election of 34 Councillors. These would consist of 10 wards each with three elected members and one ward (Galashiels and District) with four members.
Copies of the report and maps showing the recommended ward boundaries are now on public display in the main reception area
at Council HQ, Newtown St Boswells, and in the Council's Contact Centres. Copies of the maps only will be on display at the
Council Area Offices (Duns, Galashiels, Hawick, Peebles) and in libraries (including mobile libraries).
The Commission's report and illustrative maps are also available for viewing, or downloading, free of charge, on the Commission's
website at www.lgbc-scotland.gov.uk.
Scottish Ministers must wait a minimum of six weeks from the submission of the report before making an Order giving effect to the proposals.
