Information pack to beat bogus callers

Tuesday, May 16 2006

An information pack to help beat bogus callers is available from Scottish Borders Council.

The free pack includes clear advice for elderly and vulnerable people on how to answer the door safely to unexpected callers. It stresses the importance of keeping doors locked, using the door chain and checking callers' credentials.

The pack also contains a consumer's guide to doorstep selling, and information about the Bordercare alarm system, which can be used to alert a central operator in an emergency.

To obtain a bogus caller information pack, please contact SBC (Community Safety) on 01835 825085; SBC (Trading Standards) on 01835 823922 or Lothian and Borders Police on 01450 364412.
