Mini Clan Thistle Run returns to Eyemouth
Friday, May 12 2006
The Mini Clan - the fan club which celebrates the Mini car in all its forms - is making a welcome return to Eyemouth on Sunday 28 May in its first Thistle Run to the town since 2002.
About 100 minis are expected to take part in the run, which will start at the Scottish Mining Museum, Newtongrange, and finish at Eyemouth. After reaching Eyemouth, the cars will parade through the town to the New Fishmarket at around 2.30 pm, led by the town's Pipe Band.
Douglas Younger, Honorary Provost of Eyemouth, is delighted that the Mini Clan has chosen to return to Eyemouth: "The 2002 run brought out the crowds and it was a fantastic sight to see so many minis in Eyemouth. We are looking forward to welcoming them back with open arms. As it will be the Bank Holiday weekend, this will be an added bonus for the community of Eyemouth and visitors to the town that afternoon."
Following the procession, the minis will park-up at the New Fishmarket for their annual awards ceremony, known as "Show and Shine".
One of the Thistle Run organisers, Kenneth Barr explained, "We have something for everyone, so there are various judging categories including Most Eye Catching Exterior, Furthest Travelled Mini and even one for the tackiest accessory! In addition, this year's Eyemouth Herring Queen will present the prize for the best car of the show. We had a great time four years ago and we hope it will be even better this year."
