Council launches major survey of Borders housing needs
Monday, April 17 2006
A major survey of housing needs in the Borders starts this month, involving thousands of residents through interviews and questionnaires.
The research is being carried out by Outside UK on behalf of Scottish Borders Council, to help give a clear idea of current and future housing issues. The results will be used by the Council to inform housing strategy and planning policy to help meet the housing needs of local residents.
During April and May, researchers from Outside will interview 1,500 randomly selected households across the region. A further 18,000 householders will receive questionnaires through the post.
Face-to-face interviews will last no more than 30 minutes, and a postal survey should take about 10 minutes to complete.
Both will ask households about their current home and neighbourhood, their previous homes, the needs of the people in their
household and their intentions to move, if any.
"The success of the survey will depend upon the number of people we are able to interview and the amount of information they
provide us with," explained Richard Davies, SBC's Head of Housing and Social Work Strategy. "We would like to thank householders
in advance for their help in compiling what promises to be one of the most detailed and useful assessments of Borders' housing
needs."
