St Peters wins Borders' primary school netball finals

Monday, February 27 2006

The top 10 primary school netball teams in the Borders met at Queens Centre, Galashiels on Wednesday, 22 February.

Representing their areas were teams from Duns, Reston, Earlston, Parkside (Jedburgh), St Peters and Glendinning Terrace (Galashiels), Trinity and Stirches (Hawick),  Priorsford amd Kingsland (Peebles). All 10 teams had qualified for the final tournament from area tournaments played earlier in the month.

All the teams gave 100% to their games and seemed to thoroughly enjoy the experience. Kingsland won Pool A, with St Peters as runner-up. Priorsford won Pool B with a maximum 12 points, with Parkside as runner up.

Play in the cross-over ties was end to end, with teams using the ball and space well. Kingsland narrowly defeated Parkside by two goals to one, while St Peters scored the golden goal against Priorsford for a place in the final.

Play in the final showed a high standard of skills and teamwork. Kingsland found it hard to break St Peters' defence, where goalkeeper Linsey Borthwick had an excellent game.

The final score was St Peters 1 - Kingsland 0. Congratulations to St Peters' players and coach Mrs Anderson.
