Maps and Directions to Council Headquarters

This page has been designed to be printed. It contains all necessary maps and directions to Council HQ.

The Council Headquarters are located in Newtown St. Boswells, just off the A68, in the centre of the our region.

Travelling from the North

If you are travelling from a location north of the Scottish Borders(including Glasgow), you are advised to:
  • Travel towards Edinburgh,
  • Get on to the Edinburgh City By-Pass - the A720,
  • Leave the By-Pass at Dalkeith - the Sherrifhall Roundabout,
  • Follow the A68 for around 30 miles and turn right to Newtown St. Boswells,
  • Take the 3rd right into Council Headquarters and follow the signs to the visitor car park.

Here are the specific instructions from Edinburgh (Airport): estimated time 1 hour 15 minutes.

  • Leave the airport complex, and turn left onto Glasgow Road (A8), heading towards Edinburgh,
  • Follow the signs for southbound traffic,
  • Turn left onto the Gogar Roundabout (A720),
  • Turn right at the roundabout onto the City By-Pass (A720),
  • At the end of By-Pass, (14miles) turn right at the Sheriffhall Roundabout onto Old Dalkeith Road (A68),
  • Follow A68 through Dalkeith following signs for Jedburgh,
  • Follow the A68 for 25miles through Pathhead, Lauder, Earlston,
  • 1½ miles after Earlston go straight across at the roundabout,
  • ½ miles after the roundabout turn right for Newtown St. Boswells,
  • Take the 3rd right into Council Headquarters and follow the signs to the visitor's car park.

Travelling from the South-East

If you are travelling from a location south east of the Scottish Borders (i.e. from Newcastle, or having travelled on the A1(M)), you are advised to:
  • Travel towards Newcastle,
  • Filter left on to the A1, which cuts through Newcastle - Junction 65 off the A1(M),
  • Turn onto the A696 to Ponteland,Travel through Ponteland, Belsay, Otterburn, Rochester,
  • After around 30 miles, pass through Jedburgh,
  • Continue for 12 miles passing through St. Boswells,
  • ½ mile beyond St. Boswells turn left into Newtown St. Boswells,
  • Take 3rd left, in front of Council HQ and follow signs for visitor’s car park.

Here are the specifc instructions from Newcastle Airport: estimated time - 1 hour 15 minute

  • Leave the Airport and turn right at the roundabout onto the A696,
  • Continue on the A696 which changes to the A68,
  • Travel through Ponteland, Belsay, Otterburn, and Rochester,
  • Cross the Border into Scotland, and the Scottish Borders Region,
  • After 50 miles on the A68 you will pass through Jedburgh,
  • Continue for 10 miles passing through St. Boswells,
  • ½ mile beyond St. Boswells turn left into Newtown St. Boswells,
  • Take the 3rd left, in front of Council HQ and follow signs for visitor car park.

Travelling from the South-West

If you are travelling from a location south west of the Scottish Borders (i.e. from Manchester, or having traveled on the M6), you are advised to:
  • Travel towards Carlisle - on the M6,
  • Turn on to the A7 - at Junction 44,
  • Turn on to the A699 to St. Boswells - at the outskirts of Selkirk, just as you enter the 30 MPH speed restriction,
  • Turn left on to the A68 at St. Boswells,
  • Follow the A68 and turn left into Newtown St. Boswells,
  • Take the 3rd left into the Council Headquarters and follow the signs to the visitor car park.

Here are the specifc instructions from Carlisle:

  • Follow the A7 through Longtown, Langholm, and then Hawick (44 miles),
  • Continue on the A7 towards Selkirk (12miles),
  • On the outskirts of Selkirk, just as you enter the 30 MPH speed restriction, at the crossroads before the B.P. service garage, turn right onto A699 for St Boswells,
  • After 10 miles turn left at the crossroads with the A68,
  • Follow the A68 and turn left into Newtown St. Boswells,
  • Take the 3rd left into the Council Headquarters and follow the signs to the visitor car park.

Travelling from the Berwick Upon Tweed

Here are the specific instructions from Berwick upon Tweed: estimated time - 55 minutes:
  • Leave Berwick upon Tweed on the A698 heading for Coldstream and Kelso (23 miles),
  • In Kelso take the A699 for St Boswells and Selkirk,
  • In St Boswells, turn right onto the A68 for Edinburgh,
  • ½ mile from St. Boswells, turn left into Newtown St. Boswells,
  • Take the 3rd left, in front of Council HQ and follow signs for visitor’s car park.

Details of Council HQ

Visitors to Council HQ are asked to go to Reception at the main entrance.
Each portfolio will provide details on who you should ask for upon your arrival at HQ. There are several locations which are commonly used within HQ:
  • Council Chambers
  • Old School Meeting Room 1
  • Old School Meeting Room 2
  • Old School Meeting Room 3
