The Scottish Borders Finalised Local Plan

Copies of the Plan are now available for view at Council Area Offices, Contact Centres and public libraries.

The full version of the Plan is also available from this site in PDF format.

The formal deposit period opened on 13 December 2005 and closed on 31 January 2006. All objections and comments received have been analysed by the Council.  On 25 May 2006, Council considered and agreed a report which recommended that all objections received during the deposit period be considered by two independent reporters appointed from the Scottish Executive Independent Reporters Unit.  The Reporters will be charged with undertaking the Public Local Inquiry on behalf of the Council.

A Pre-Inquiry Meeting was held by the Reporter on Tuesday 25 April to discuss procedures involved in the Public Local Inquiry process and to arrange the running order for the inquiry.

The Public Local Inquiry into the Finalised Local Plan began on 4 September, 2006 and is being run in accord with circular 32/1996 code of Practice for Local Plan Inquiries (external link).

What Happens Next

Following the close of the Inquiry, the Reporters will prepare their report for consideration by the Council.  Any recommended changes put forward in the Reporter’s report will be considered.  If post-inquiry modifications are required in line with the recommendations, these will be put forward for consultation with the public. The Council will then proceed through the appropriate processes towards formal adoption.
