How do I apply for planning consent?

There are a number of different forms of planning consent which may be required for your development and application forms for each are available to download from this site.  Please ensure you check the guidance notes for each application type.

Please note: In most cases, all documentation forming part of an application, and all subsequent correspondence (from any party) will be published online at the Council Public Access website.

All application forms should be completed in black ink only.

Fee

Most applications will require a fee to be submitted along with your completed application. Follow the link in order to confirm the fee that will be required for your particular application.

You will note in each case that the forms must also be accompanied by the necessary plans and drawings showing your site's location and detailing your proposals.

In terms of plans and drawings, it is advisable to commission the services of a professional architect, surveyor, builder or similarly qualified person to produce your drawings.

The Council will undertake neighbour notification. You should be aware that Regulations require that, if it is not possible to identify all owners of neighbouring premises and land, you will be required to meet the cost of any advertisement required for this purpose. We will write to you on receipt of your application if this is necessary.

Questionnaire

The Council aims to act fairly when processing planning applications. Please take a few moments to fill in our questionnaire and submit it with your planning application.

Householder planning application form

Non-Householder planning application form

  • Guidance: This application form will be required should you wish to change the use of a building or land or intend to build, alter or extend any form of building unrelated to an existing house or flat. This form can also be used whether you wish to make a Full application or an application for planning permission in principle (PPP), which will enable the Council to consider your proposals in principle only. If PPP is granted, at least one further application for the detailed scheme, covering any outstanding conditions attached to the PPP, will be needed.

Listed building consent/conservation area

  • Guidance: This application form is required should you propose altering or extending a Listed Building, or intend to demolish an unlisted building located within a Conservation Area. In the case of Listed Buildings, your proposals may also need planning permission, applied for using either Householder or Other Planning Application forms.

Display advertisements

  • Consent to Display Advertisements Form: This application form will be required should you propose to install an advertisement on land or on, or within, a building. Certain exemptions apply, however, so you should contact the local planning officer to confirm whether or not your proposal will require formal approval. If your building is Listed, Listed Building Consent may also be required for your proposals.

Agricultural buildings

  • Guidance: Not all agricultural buildings will require full planning permission, the need for consent being dependent on the size, use and location of the proposal.  If full permission is not required, however, anyone proposing to build or significantly extend an agricultural building is still required to formally notify the Council of his/her intention to do so by way of the attached "Prior Notification" forms.  Full details on whether or not you will need to submit a full planning application, or just "Prior Notification" forms, are given in the guidance notes. Alternatively, you may contact the local planning officer.

Local Review

Notice of Review Form (use this form only in circumstances where you are the applicant and are seeking a review of the decision on an application in the category of "Local Development" determined under delegated powers).  Further information on Local Review and appeals processes is available in the "What Happens Next" section of the website.
